Buda: The Outdoor Capital of Texas

Buda, Texas was named the Outdoor Capital of Texas by the Texas State Legislature because it has more parkland per capita than any other city in the state. Currently there are 12 Buda Texas Parks (with plans to add another), and the parks feature several hike and bike trails, nature areas, playgrounds, fishing ponds, sports and recreation fields, a skate park and pavilions available to rent for your next event.Buda Texas Parks - Garison Park

In 2016, the City of Buda also announced that they have acquired new parkland, and will be adding Garison Park. This park will take some time to be developed but it will be add 40 acres to Buda’s growing park system. Oh and it has a swimming hole!

Buda Texas Parks

1. Bonita Vista Park

The Bonita Vista park is a 7 acre park in the Bonita Vista neighborhood. This quaint Buda Texas park is equipped with a covered playscape, swings, basketball courts, picnic tables, and a water fountain. The Bonita Vista Park is located at the corner of Goforth Road and Bonita Vista Drive at the entrance to the Bonita Vista subdivision. There is no dedicated parking for this park, so you will need to park off of Bonita Vista Drive.

2. Bradfield Village Park

Bradfield Park is a 31 acre public park located in the Bradfield Village neighborhood. The park is a local fisherman’s favorite, as it offers three fishing ponds, one of which is 5 acres and is stocked with Blue and Channel Catfish. They have also recently added a fishing pier on the larger pond. In addition to the ponds, there is a hike and bike trail, playscape, picnic tables, benches, BBQ pits, and a water fountain. The park also hosts an annual Buda Fun Fish Day. Bradfield Village Park is located at 140 Crescent Drive, Buda, TX. West of I-35 off Main St. then South on Bradfield Drive 2 blocks, turn right into park. You can access parking off of Main Street or you can park on the street by the park’s entrance on Crescent Drive.

3. Buda City Park

Located in the heart of downtown Buda, is the Buda City Park. The park encompasses 7 acres of land and includes two pavilions, two full size basketball courts, a large covered playground, swings, picnic tables, benches, restrooms, and water fountains. The playground features 2 playscapes; One for tots and the other for older children. There is also a large grassy area for running around or practicing sports. The pavilions can be rented out for parties, special events, and live music. Several of Buda’s finest annual events are held at the City Park including; the Buda’s Wiener Dog Races & Country Fair, Movies in the Park, the Red, White and Buda Independence Day Celebration, BudaFest, and FireFest Texas. Buda City Park is located at 204 San Antonio Rd, Buda, TX. At the intersection of Garison Rd. and San Antonio St. just west of the railroad tracks. There is parking off of both Garison Rd. and San Antonio St..

4. Buda Sportsplex

Buda Sportsplex is located right next to the Hays Communities Family Branch YMCA, and is currently, Buda’s newest park. The Sportsplex features 52 acres with a lengthy trail system, a large covered playground, a xeriscape, and vast open parkland. Along with a pavilion there are four softball/baseball fields, and four recreational fields, the Sportsplex offers restroom facilities onsite, picnic tables, benches, trash cans, water fountains, and a concession stand that can be rented for private use. The park is also outfitted with water and electricity. Buda Sportsplex is located at 310 Buda Sportsplex Dr, Buda, TX. across from the Hays Communities Family Branch YMCA, near FM 967 and FM 1626.

5. Cullen Country Park

Cullen Country Park is a 24 acre greenbelt, trail system that backs up to Garlic Creek. Among the beautiful trees that provide ample shade, the park has several picnic tables that are scattered throughout the trail for public use. Also onsite is a playground, benches, and a hike/bike trail. Cullen Country Park is located at 211 Cullen Blvd. Buda, TX. at the entrance to the Cullen Country subdivision. Turn left into parking lot to access the park.

6. Downtown Greenbelt

If you are looking for the perfect center stage for your next big event, or just a place to relax and have a picnic, the Gazebo and 10acre Greenbelt area in Downtown Buda has you covered. The Gazebo is 10 feet by 10 feet, and is ideal ideal for Weddings, Dress Rehearsals, and any other events that desire a little added flair. Along with the Gazebo, the Greenbelt has 3 picnic tables, 8 benches, restrooms, bike rack and a water fountain. The Downtown Greenbelt is located at 319 Main St, Buda, TX. Just north of the Buda Public Library. Parking is located in the library parking lot.

7. Garlic Creek Park

Situated in the back Garlic Creek West subdivision, is Garlic Creek Park. This Buda Texas park sits on 31 acres of land and includes a playground, basketball court, picnic tables and a pavilion. The pavilion and basketball courts are available on a first come, first serve basis unless it is reserved. Hiking and biking trails are also on site, as well as a water fountain. Garlic Creek Park is located at 1195 Heep Run, Buda, TX 78610.

8. Green Meadows Park

Green Meadows subdivision also offers a neighborhood park. The Green Meadows Park is on 6 acres, and is equipped with a 2 playscapes, swings, basketball court, picnic tables, benches, and pavilion. The pavilion and basketball courts are available on a first come, first serve basis unless it is reserved. Green Meadows Park is located at 2357 Green Meadows Lane, Buda, TX.

9. Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park

If you enjoy skateboarding, then the Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park is the place to be. This Buda Texas park opened in 2013 and was named for local Buda teen, Jackson Tyler Norris, who was an avid skateboarder and was tragically killed after a car hit him while he was skateboarding. There is also a local skateboard shop, Buda Skate, directly across the street from the park.

10. Stagecoach Park

One of Hays Happenings personal favorites, Historic Stagecoach Park features two historic facilities on 51 acres to explore and enjoy. Take a stroll through the beautiful acres of mesquite and oak trees surrounding the hiking trails and perhaps spot some local wildlife! After exploring the trails, have a picnic on the grounds, or underneath the pavilion, which can be reserved for private events. Also included onsite is a playground, amphitheater, pond and a council ring for Scout purposes. There are two restrooms, water and electricity. The annual Buda Trail of Lights is held at this Buda Texas park. Stagecoach Park is located at 880 Main Street, Buda, TX. West of I-35 off Loop 4 before the RR tracks downtown. There are multiple parking areas throughout the park.

11. Stoneridge Park

Stoneridge Park is located at the entrance of Stoneridge neighborhood. This 5-acre public park features 2 covered playscapes with a rock climbing wall, basketball court and a recreational field. Also onsite for public use are a pavilion, benches, picnic tables and trash cans are onsite for public use. The pavilion is available on a first come, first serve basis unless it is reserved. Stoneridge Park is located at 1131 Stone Rim Loop Buda, TX. At the entrance to the Stoneridge subdivision at the corner of Glenview Ln. and Stone Rim Loop. Parking for this Buda Texas park is available on Stone Rim Loop.

12. Whispering Hollow Park

Not only does Whispering Hollow Park have an 18 mile trail system, playground, picnic, tables and benches onsite to use and enjoy, but also available are BBQ pits, restroom and a pavilion. The pavilion is available on a first come, first serve basis unless it is reserved. Whispering Hollow Park is located at 1160 Old Black Colony Road, Buda, TX. North off of FM1626 on Old Black Colony Road about ¼ mile on the left.
